The UF CTSI Community Scientist Program
The University of Florida’s CTSI Community Scientist Program builds on a tradition of involving patients and families in research. Initially focused on parents of children with special health needs, the program now includes diverse community members.
What Does a Community Scientist Do?
Community scientists engage in various activities, including:
- Reviewing recruitment materials (flyers, forms, messages)
- Advising on public communication of research findings
- Assisting with presentations
- Participating in study teams, workgroups, or committees
Program Highlights
- Innovation Studios: Roundtable discussions with stakeholders to refine research proposals.
- Patient Scientists: Individuals recruited to participate actively in research, leading to the creation of the Citizen Scientist Program.
- Diverse Engagement: Collaborations with patients, community clinicians, and other stakeholders to improve research quality, relevance, and health outcomes.
